Research about the company and know the job scope before the interview
Print extra copies of your resume
Arrive 15 minutes before your interview slot
Greet your interviewers by their title (Ms., Mr.)
Sit up straight, maintain good eye contact
Explain the skills, work experiences and positive attributes that you have to offer, relating them back to the job role
Be confident, authentic and polite
Listen and look out for cues on what the employer is looking for in a candidate. Do they value drive? Empathy? Willingness to learn? If so, be sure your answers speak to that
Prepare to ask at least 1 question to the interviewer
Write a personalised “Thank You” email to the interviewers within 24 hours
Interview Don’ts
Speak negatively about former colleagues, supervisors or employers
Answer questions with a simple “yes” or “no”. Instead, elaborate your answers using the C.A.R model to highlight your skills, personal attributes, and achievements
Lie. If you have to mention about a past mistake (e.g. criminal record or if you were asked to leave by your previous company), be truthful and focus on what you have learnt from the mistake
Bring up or discuss personal issues or family problems. Keep things professional. Employers are interested in your value-add to the company
Enquire about salary, vacations, bonuses, retirement, or other benefits yet. Let them present an offer first.
