Kaitlyn Lim is a bright-and-breezy, glass-half-full kind of person. She steps into the room and, immediately, the mood turns lively. Certainly, her job title of Ambassador of Buzz at lyf one-north Singapore, a property under the Ascott Group, fits her to a tee.
It was no surprise that when there was a job opening, her friend saw her as a good fit for the role. “I was chatting with a friend of mine who was working here at lyf, and he felt that this job fits my bubbly personality, my experience in guest engagement and my interest in design,” she shares.
But what is an Ambassador of Buzz all about?
In a nutshell, it’s taking the traditional guest relations role and adding a dynamic spin. Such jobs in the hospitality industry are a sure sign of how the hospitality industry is evolving to meet the changing needs of a new generation of guests and customers at hotels.
What Kaitlyn enjoys most in her current role as the Ambassador of Buzz is the autonomy to create unique events and experiences at the property. Some of these include events such as lyf Beats, a live music and beer event, and A Pet’s lyf, a pet adoption drive.
Ask her how her existing role is different from the usual guest or customer relations role and Kaitlyn says it is “definitely a job redesign” because she’s now taking on diverse projects that make her job exciting. “There’s no typical day in my job because I wear multiple hats!”
Comparing her previous experience in guest relations jobs, the focus previously was on ensuring a satisfying stay for guests and customers wherever she was, whether in hospitality or F&B brands. But as the industry evolves, so do the traditional jobs remaining in the sector. On top of making sure guests have a memorable stay at the property, Kaitlyn’s role also includes responsibilities such as promoting event spaces, exploring partnerships to introduce perks for residents, and assisting with filming and content creation when necessary.

“The hospitality industry has evolved significantly in recent years,” says Kaitlyn, who started her career in the industry as a guest relations intern in 2017. One of the changes she’s witnessed is the guests’ desire for personalised experiences and unique offerings.
And with a growing number of guests from Gen-Z, social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok are also becoming more important. Gen-Z guests, Kaitlyn finds, look for engagement through brands being authentic.
