If you’re looking for a job right now, we know the drill. The monotony of looking through job one job post after another and sending out tons of resumes daily can be a drag. It may even feel unproductive after a while.
As the saying goes, “Wastefulness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” If you’re not getting results from your job search routine, it’s time to do something about it!
Here are some tips to supercharge your job search, courtesy of the folks from the MyCareersFuture (MCF) jobs portal.
Applying for jobs? Don’t forget to update your MyCareersFuture profile first. Log in now!
1. Always present the most updated profile of yourself
It’s likely that you’re a different person today than you were two or even a year ago. Since then, you may have gained more experience and skills, or even garnered more accomplishments.
So, this is not the time to play coy! List all your previous and recent accomplishments in your resume and CV and let prospective employers know. Sending out a non-updated resume or CV is equivalent to selling yourself short.

Update your skills conveniently
To update your skills on the MCF portal, all you need to do is log in, navigate to your profile, then click on ‘Add Skills’ and search for skills to add.
On the job search page, MCF will also indicate what skills every posted job requires. Pay attention to this portion as it will help you decide whether the job is suitable for you too.
If you have these skills, add them to your profile to show employers that you are suited for the job.
Highlights jobs that best match your skills
Look out for your skills match % score which can be found on the job post. Jobs that best match you are highlighted in green too. To maximise your chances, apply for jobs with a higher skills match percentage!

2. Keep updated on new job opportunities efficiently
New job vacancies are posted almost daily; chances are you’ll miss out on them if you’re not actively checking. However, it’s certainly not possible to stay glued to your computer screen all day long!
Here’s an idea: instead of having you look out for new jobs posted, get notifications whenever they’re posted. This way, you get first dibs on the types of roles you’re gunning for without having to keep checking incessantly.
You can set up job alerts on the MCF portal with just a few clicks of the mouse. Here’s how:
- Log in and search for jobs. Narrow your search by adding filters such as salary, employment type (e.g., permanent or flexi-work) and job function
- Click on ‘Create Job Alert’
- Check that your search term is correct (don’t leave it blank!), then click ‘Save’
Important note:
Make sure you don’t leave the search term field blank – 1 in 5 jobseekers make this mistake and end up receiving jobs that are not relevant to them!
3. Get invited by employers to apply for jobs
Here’s a thought. Instead of just you submitting applications to employers, wouldn’t it be great to have employers invite you to apply for jobs? Sounds like a pipe dream?
Not if you’re tapping on the MCF jobs portal.
All you need to do is set your profile as ‘Open to Opportunities’. Once that’s done, you will receive an email alert whenever an employer invites you to apply for an opening!
On the MCF portal, you can also view all your job invitations in one place. These are invitations for jobs that employers think you are suitable for, based on your skills and experiences. So, consider applying for them!

Be focused on your job search but do take breaks
Between looking at job listings, revising your resume, and customising your cover letter, job searching can feel like a job in and of itself. So, why not treat it as a job and take regular breaks to help boost your productivity?
Take some time each day to do something you enjoy, such as going for a stroll, meeting up with friends or family for a short coffee, or watching the newest episode of your favourite show.
Small pauses can help you re-energise your job search efforts and, ideally, help you land the job you want.
